The Guide to Ultimate Wellness
excerpts from the book
Prayer is the foundation of everything that we do. Communicating with God is something special that we need to take in our hearts to do several times a day. One of the things about dealing with disease is that we do not put enough emphasis on prayer.
Prayer is and will continue to be a major source of our healing. In certain areas of research in universities throughout the country, doing research on prayer and healing, have found that prayer is the basis of everything in our life and especially with healing. At Reformation Healing Ministries we promote and teach the importance of health not only because of the word of God and the science of the way a person body physically, emotionally, and spiritually respond to prayer. It has been proven in the research that prayer works 100 percent of the time in our lives.
It is important to understand the word of God and what it means when it comes to prayers. Psalms 66:18 reads, If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me. For example, those who take pleasure in unrighteousness have no hope of answered prayer when they call on God. He wants us to separate from sins, and only then will he respond to us as a Father to his Son (See II Corinthians 6:14-18, James 4:3, and I John 3:2).
A lot of people that pray for others have not separated themselves from sin. When we are sick, we have a tendency to revert to prayer, which we should, but we have not turn around our sinful ways and accept righteousness. God cannot hear us until we separate from sins
James 5:16 reads the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Prayer is the foundation. Our healing process does not start until we communicate with our Father. It is such a pleasure to communicate with someone that has so much love for us that he gave his only begotten Son. It is a special privilege to have a Father like God in our Hearts. We are very fortunate and blessed to be able to communicate with God through prayer.
Matthews 21:22 reads and all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believe and you will receive. Mark 9: 24-26 reads when Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter him no more. And the spirit cried out, convulsed him greatly, and came out him of him. And when he had come out and entered into the house, the deciphers asked him privately, why could we not cast him out. He said to them that this kind can come out by nothing but prayer.
So disease is something of the earth. Disease is something the devil has perpetrated in your lives, which means you have made bad choices and decisions for the most part based on not knowing or understanding. The ignorance of life is that we have put our self in the position to be diseased. When you pray, go into your room and pray to the Father who is in that secret place. He will reward you openly.
The Ministry that I have taught around the world and around the country, with every individual that has come to me in the state of disease, we pray before they leave my office. That is the way it should be every time you go to someone that is professing to be a vessel of healing through Christ. If they will not pray for you then you should find another health care practitioner because prayer is paramount. If they are dealing with your body, prayer is the foundation of everything that they represent in that visit. Prayer works in a divine way. The first step the holistic practitioner needs to introduce to you is prayer.
In a study done by the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL, and Wayne State University found that older Americans that suffer from any type of stress in their lives, the odds are that they used prayer to worn it off. In addition, nurse researchers found that prayer is the most frequently reported alternative treatment used by seniors to feel better or maintain health in general (Source: Science Daily, Jan, 2001).
UF College of Nursing associate professor Ann L. Horgas and Karen S. Dunn, a Wayne State University doctoral student, report 96 percent of older adults use prayer to specifically cope with stress.
The study, published in the December issue of the Journal of Holistic Nursing, also shows that 84 percent of the respondents reported using prayer more than other alternative remedies to feel better or to maintain their health. In fact, from a list of 32 alternative therapies, prayer was used more often than exercise, heat, relaxation techniques, humor or herbal remedies to maintain overall health (Source: Science Daily, Jan,2001). So prayer is the foundation of everything that we do. Not only is it important to prevent disease but also to turn it around and reverse the disease state.
"There's been recent research showing that most Americans pray and that prayer has a positive effect on mental and physical health," said Horgas, a registered nurse who joined the University of Florida nursing faculty and the University of Florida Institute on Aging this past summer. She said that "most of the studies about prayer and health have been conducted on very ill, hospitalized or surgical patients" (Source: Science Daily, Jan, 2001).
Nurse Horgas and Dunn interviewed 50 people, average age was 74, at six community senior centers and one church in Detroit. Seventy percent of the respondents were women, 48 percent were white and 52 percent were black. About half the respondents were Catholic (48 percent) followed by Protestants (46 percent) and the remainder were classified as other. They determined that women and black/African Americans did report using prayer to cope with stress significantly more often than men and white/Caucasians. The study concluded that prayer can improve health
Stress will shut down the physical and emotional aspects of the human body. Stress can shut down the immune and digestive systems which are two major systems in the body. Prayers help to restore health back into the body. Prayer is a primary component of healing that has been tested in different universities.
Researchers call prayer working in "mysterious ways." Actually it is not in mysterious ways, it is divine intervention by God. In one study with women at an in-vitro fertilization (IVF) clinic had higher rates when total strangers were praying them. Another study found that people who undergo risky cardiovascular surgery have fewer complications when they are in prayer groups.
A fertilization study conducted at a hospital in Seoul, Korea found a doubling of the pregnancy rate among women who were prayed for, says Rogerio A. Lobo, MD, chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Columbia University School of Medicine in New York City. His study appears in the September issue of the Journal of Reproductive Medicine. When we communicate with God, God comes to our rescue. Prayer is the foundation of everything. We need to separate our self from sin and to receive righteousness in order for prayer to work, because a lot of people have been prayed upon but their disease continues to get worse.
The randomized study involved 199 women who were undergoing in vitro fertility treatments at a hospital in Seoul, Korea, during 1998 through 1999. All women were selected for the study based on their similar age and fertility factors, Lobo tells WebMD. Half the women were randomly assigned to have one of several Christian prayer groups in the U.S., Canada, and Australia pray for them. A photograph of each patient was given to her prayer group. While one set of prayer groups prayed directly for the women, a second set of prayer groups prayed for the first set, and a third group prayed for both groups. Neither the women nor their medical caregivers knew about the study or that anyone was praying for them.
"We were very careful to control this as rigorously as we could," Lobo told WebMD. "We deliberately set it up in an unbiased way." That meant not informing patients they were being prayed for, so it would not influence the women's outcome. Whether the patients were praying for themselves -- or if others were praying for them - "we don't know," he said. The women in the prayed for group became pregnant twice as often as the other women, he said.
Now remember that this is medical research. They did not expect prayer to work. Researchers analyzed the data many times and were not able to find any discrepancies. Isn't that wonderful what God is doing? In another study involving 150 patients, all having serious heart problems, all scheduled for a procedure called angioplasty, in which doctors thread a catheter up into a clogged heart artery, open it up, and insert a little device called a stent to prop it open.
Patients who were prayed for during their procedure had far fewer complications, report's lead author Mitchell W. Krucoff, MD, director of the Ischemia Monitoring Laboratory at Duke University Medical Center and the Durham Veterans Administration Medical Center in Durham, NC. His study appears in the current issue of the American Heart Journal.
Krucoff enrolled 150 patients who were going to have the stent procedure, and then randomly assigned them to receive one of five complementary therapies: guided imagery, stress relaxation, healing touch, or intercessory off site prayer, which meant they were prayed for by others, or to no complementary therapy.
All the complementary therapies except off-site prayer were performed at the patient's bedside at least one hour before the cardiac procedures. Seven prayer groups of varying denominations around the world including Buddhists, Catholics, Moravians, Jews, fundamentalist Christians, Baptists, and the Unity School of Christianity, prayed for specific patients during their procedures. Each prayer group was assigned names, ages, and illnesses of specific patients they were to pray for. None of the patients, family members, or staff knew who was being prayed for. Prayer is such a powerful thing that is why it is instituted in the healing and prevention process of this ministry.
In another study from Harvard researchers, titled "Prayer are the doctors" found that people suffering from chronic, tough to treat medical conditions such as arthritis and back pain, a conversation with God can seem more helpful than a visit with the doctor. This is a report from Harvard University, who surveyed over 2000 people. An example, severe depression had results of prayer working 68%, doctors had 48%, anxiety prayer had 70%, doctors 38%. Cancer had results of prayer 81% and doctors 70%. Doctors try to heal through remission which means that the health condition can come back the next day, the next month or the next year. Remember that prayer is the foundation of health and healing.
Prayer is a form of communication with God. Communication is a part of us. The human body has approximately 125 trillion cells. The cells have to communicate with each other. When you pray, you are communicating with God, meaning every cell in your body is being touched by God. Communication is a way that our cells and tissues in our body respond to live sources. It is important to remember that death is disease and life is health.
